Give a Homeless Family in Bucks County a Lift -
Donate a Car!

Living in Bucks County and getting to work or school without a car may seem impossible, but dealing with limited transportation is a daily fact of life for many of the people served by Housing Group.

Without transportation Housing Group clients are unable to go to work, school, and the doctors- in short they are stuck without a ride!

Fortunately, help for these Bucks County families is available through the Wheelz2Work (W2W) program. W2W accepts donated vehicles in good working order and gives them to client families in need of transportation: itıs a simple idea with big results!

Do you have a vehicle in good working order? Donating a car is easy-here's how it works:

  • Call the Wheelz2Work program coordinator at 215-598-3566, extension 20. If no one is available to take your call, please leave your name, telephone number, and the best times to contact you. You may also send an e-mail to rcarroll@bchg.org.
  • Our W2W Coordinator will return your call within two business days. We will explain the program in detail and answer your questions. We will also mail you an information packet for your review.
  • An appointment will be made for the transfer of your vehicle and vehicle title.
  • You will receive an official acknowledgement of your donation to use for tax purposes. If you itemize deductions on your tax return, you will benefit from a tax deduction for the fair market value of the donated car.

Take full advantage of new tax regulations!

New federal tax legislation regarding vehicle donations took effect on January 1, 2005.

Under the new regulations, car donors who itemize their deductions can only deduct the fair market value of the car if the organization receiving the car uses it directly for a charitable purpose.

For example, if a vehicle with a fair market value of $4,000 is donated to a non-profit organization that sells it for $1,000, the donor can only deduct $1,000. In contrast, if the organization (such as Housing Group) provides the vehicle to a disadvantaged person, the donor may deduct the full fair market value of $4,000.

    Other ways you can help:

Cars donated to the Wheelz2Work program often need minor repairs before they can be turned over to BCHG clients. When receiving a car, families may also face start-up expenses such as vehicle inspection, title transfer, registration, and insurance down payments. Wheelz2Work assists families with these initial costs through a community donations fund.

To donate funds to Wheelz2Work, address your check or money order to Bucks County Housing Group, Inc., indicate Wheelz2Work on the memo line, and send it to:

    Community Impact

Since 1995, close to 300 cars have been awarded to Housing Group families working towards economic self-sufficiency. Generous support from both car donors and community partners has been vital to the success of Wheelz2Work.

Here's what car recipients are saying about Wheelz2Work:

"It meant the world to me to get a car from Wheelz2Work. I could never have continued my education without a car because there was no other way for me to take my kids to daycare and then get to school on time. I would have had to give up my dream of becoming a nurse." Elizabeth, BCHG client, Doylestown

"Because of the kindness and generosity of the people who donate cars to the Wheelz2Work program, I have been working towards self-supporting my family. I have been able to obtain my associate's degree, as well as safely transport my children to daycare and doctors' appointments." Angela, BCHG client, Quakertown
